The Home of Sarah Riggs Humphreys and General David Humphreys Our chapter’s local history includes Derby, Shelton, and other surrounding towns. The city of Shelton, formerly known as Huntington, was incorporated as a town in 1789 from Stratford. Shelton was incorporated as a city in 1919. Comprised of approximately 31.4 square miles in Fairfield County, Shelton’s northwest boundary is the Housatonic River. Please visit the City of Shelton for more information!
